Yin Yoga is inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and consists of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that primarily target the lower part of the body – including the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine. These areas are rich in connective tissue and often hold deep-seated tension. Yin Yoga encourages an inward focus, guiding practitioners to connect with inner sensations and release the stress that resides within the body. Poses are typically held for one to ten minutes, followed by a period of rest known as a rebound, which allows chi (energy) to flow freely and dissolve blockages.

In this workshop, participants are invited to connect with their parasympathetic nervous system, cultivating a state of calm and deep relaxation while being immersed in the soothing sounds of Tibetan bowls, Koshi chimes, and vocal toning.


About Lucinda (Lu) Mays

Lucinda (Lu) Mays began her yoga journey in 2000 while attending a convention at Loughborough University for Physiology and Sports Science. There, she discovered Ashtanga Yoga by chance—and was instantly captivated by both the movement and philosophy behind the practice. Her curiosity led her to explore various styles of yoga, eventually taking her to Los Angeles during the early wave of the hot yoga movement, where she experienced Bikram Yoga first-hand.

With a background as a personal trainer and fitness instructor, Lu's foundation in movement and anatomy naturally led her to complete her first yoga teacher training. She began her teaching career with a strong emphasis on Vinyasa Yoga, drawn to its seamless blend of movement and breath. Her personal practice combined elements of Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Bikram Yoga, which later inspired her to pursue further training in Hot Yoga, Ashtanga, Restorative, and Yin Yoga.

Lu considers herself a lifelong student, always eager to expand her understanding in a world full of learning. Yoga has both strengthened and softened her, becoming an integral part of her life.

She has had the privilege of leading yoga retreats in Spain and Devon, and her love for yoga has also taken her to Holland, where she taught yoga, meditation, and mindfulness to large organizations such as Nissan. Her expertise has since been sought by companies like Virgin, Nestlé, Thales, and G4S. Lu also travelled to India to deepen her understanding of the philosophical and historical roots of yoga.

For Lu, yoga brings peace, purpose, and joy to everyday life. She is passionate about sharing her practice with others and warmly welcomes you to join her on the mat.
